THE BIGGER PICTURE

We must solve underlying causa, which is poverty; material poverty and mental poverty. Poverty is linked to peculiar kind of greed and bad politics. There is a strong correlation between poverty and low production. Nations with low production are poor. Nations with high production have better standards. If you go to the supermarket you find no products made by blacks. You can’t even make napkins for your kids. Really is this Okay? Democracy, good governance, does not happen to poor people.

So, what is the Diaspora doing? The bigger picture is, people came together to create development structures – to focus on increasing production and set up a new remittances platform for Zimbabwe. The first is Global Zimbabwe Forum, registered in Geneva. Its a statement to register it in Geneva. The first project under Global Zimbabwe is Zimbabwe Diaspora Development Chamber, registered in South Africa. We have done all the founding work, the research and the documents to run these structures. You don’t have to be a member of civil society to enrol with the Chamber, you don’t have to stop what you are doing. You come to join in development and prepare our people to return in style. There are pamphlets on your desks which summarize more.

What we need now is money to roll out the Chamber’s Mnotho Development Program; money for Awareness campaigns or mobilization, for about 6 months. You can see the outreach budget attached. We have the people to go out to every corner of South Africa, to the mines, farms, townships, restaurants, churches, to explain how it works, to help people organize their projects to viability, to start the mind-changing Mnotho Business Training. There are over a million Zimbabweans scattered all over, whom we should reach out to. So we need the money for fuel, vehicles, allowances for workers, printed materials, heavy duty printers etc. Cash-wise its about R750 for Gauteng. Then the process will be self sustainable. Trustees will look after the money, while the projects are being prepared.

There are no donors for the Diaspora. It takes quite a bit of heart – you and me - to put the money together. We have been running from our pockets, and we now need all of you to own this process. Diaspora structures are not owned by an individual(s). The belong to all of us. Tell all your friends, tell the rich guys,to put this money and you will see the wonder – to turn a vice into a virtue. It will be the biggest development in the world. Although we start outside, Zimbabwe will be the greatest place in the World and a Zimbabwean will be honoured. We will mobilize billions into industry, to built power stations, railways, water reticulation, housing, industrial parks- massive development that will dwarf the whole Africa – massive production for the whole world. Production means factories, infrastructure and amenities such as good systems of health, education. We are talking large volumes of money.

Banking requirements make it impossible for us to access development finance. In short, money does not come from banks or donors. We have to create our own initial capital. If we don’t, we are doomed.

The World Bank was created by people who thought out of the box. In 1944 countries of Europe had been embroiled in self destructive politics. Their countries were destroyed. Instead of crying, they conjured a completely new financing system, which has become the biggest banking system in the world. Recently in Ghana President Obama said Africans must find ways to overcome their problems. At the Nelson Mandela Annual lecture, Prof Muhammad Yunus of Bangladesh, reiterated that poverty is the core problem. He said we must come up with a system of getting money to everybody, so that the poor become productive, which he has already practised and won him the Nobel Price. I hope the Patrons Club will assist us to understand that we all have a role to play, and it is not just you and your family. That the millions of people out there require your leadership and contribution.
